Basic Reason NNXT – Filters


Welcome to another short video tutorial using the NNXT sampler in reason. I’m Dan Halford, and this time we’re
going to be looking at filtering. So, I have the Rooster sample with a
loop running on it the like that and we’ll look at where the controls are and what they are for the filter, so, they are down in this box-out bottom right hand
side of the remote programer for the NNXT and you can see you’ve got frequency
control here, and resonance control here keyboard tracking (which we will ignore for the moment) a number of filter orders here and an on/off control simply switching that on and off. OK so before we
hear what that sounds like some theory… OK so filters our devices that effect the
spectral response of a sound so we plot them we plot their response on amplitude/frequency graph like this and so the graphs lower axes runs from low to
high frequencies from left to right and the amplitude is showing from a nominal gain level here which I’ll mark on as a dotted line. Filters tend to
just be cutting frequencies so we’ll draw the linear area of the filter here so no change to the frequency response, and then the nonlinear area there this point here where the linearity
changes is known as the frequency of cut-off or
cut-off point this particular filter rejects this
high frequency material here and there’s a corresponding filter which is similar in it its response entirely except for it is the other way around so the low frequencies are rejected with the nonlinear section but it is still has the same cut-off
point and operates in same way says this this
one rejects this area low-frequency so this filter
is called a low pass filter because the Linea es
in the low-frequency and this one the high-pass filter
crystal in your area in the high frequencies now these two
filters the basic two cartons but they can be combined together to
create for filled types to available in an XT and the first
