Whites – Screen Up (Slat Screening System)

G’day, Steve from Whites here. You know sometimes when you’re out in the backyard you need that little bit of privacy. I’m gonna show you a fabulous new product called Whites outdoor Screen Up to create that little bit of privacy around my barbecue. It makes for a professional looking screen and it’s easy as 1… 2… 3… To install Screen Up you’ll need a drill fasteners, a tape measure, a level your timber and a saw and the Screen Up product of course. Measure in from the edge and then use a level to get a plumb line. Use the level to make sure both sides of the channel are even and then you can mark your holes. You can also cut the channel to your desired length using a hacksaw. The standard lengths are 1.1 or 2 metres long. Drill your holes to suit your fasteners. We’re using wall plugs and screws today. It’s important to use a low profile screw. We’re using merbau hardwood 90mm x 19mm timber decking. But you can choose any timber or aluminium slat to suit the style you are trying to achieve. Screen Up will also suit 16mm width slats and a variety of slat heights. To screw your channel into position start with the ‘L’ bracket installed into the bottom hole. The bracket fits neatly over the bottom end cap to secure the first timber slat into place. Check your levels and then complete the installation of both channels. Slide your timber in from the top and then slide in a spacer on both sides repeating this until you get to the top and finish with your end caps. The spacers are designed to complete the look and give an ideal consistent spacing of 20 millimetres between slats. Alternatively, you can leave the spacers out completely for total privacy. Today we’re using the rear-fix channel and that’s because we’re installing the screen between two walls. If we were installing the screen across the face of the wall we would use a side fix channel where the ‘L’ bracket is positioned like this. Well there you have it my privacy screen. Made from the Whites outdoor Screen Up system. The system comes complete with your black rust resistant aluminium channels you get your brackets, your spacers and the end caps. And as you can see it’s as easy as 1… 2… 3…
